At Transport Ticketing Global 2025, innovation meets sustainability. As the world’s largest gathering for smart ticketing and mobility solutions, the event brings together transport operators, authorities, and technology providers to explore the future of seamless, digital-first travel. Hosted by Clarion Events at Olympia London, the exhibition showcases cutting-edge advancements in fare collection, contactless ticketing, and passenger experience.
But innovation isn’t limited to technology, this year’s event is also driving positive social and environmental impact through a unique initiative: repurposing event infrastructure to support communities in need. Infrastructure that was designed with social purpose in mind.
A Bus Stop with a Purpose
As part of the event’s "Public Lounge," a specially designed bus stop provided visitors with a place to sit, relax, and connect. But this wasn’t just any bus stop, it’s one which carried a social and environmental mission.
Clarion Events partnered with Event Cycle and Stitch, a social enterprise that creates employment opportunities for individuals facing barriers to work. Committed to sustainability, Stitch ensured that as many materials as possible were reclaimed for the project, incorporating reused timber, marine ply, acrylic, and metal brackets to build the structure. With 74% of their materials being repurposed, they deliver low-carbon, high-impact solutions for the events they work on.
Beyond sustainability, this initiative supported Stitch’s workforce, where 29% of crew members have experienced homelessness or other barriers to employment. More than just an event installation, the bus stop is a platform for skill development, financial independence, and meaningful work opportunities.
Extending the Impact Beyond the Event
Once Transport Ticketing Global 2025 concluded, the journey of the bus stop didn’t end. Rather than being dismantled and discarded as is common after conferences, it found a new permanent home at The Lawns Care Home in Worcestershire.
The Lawns provides specialist dementia care, and the bus stop will serve as a vital reminiscence tool for residents. Familiar environments, like a bus stop, can have a calming effect on individuals with dementia, helping to reduce anxiety and providing a meaningful focal point for engagement. It offers a place where residents can sit, recall past experiences, and participate in structured activities that enhance cognitive well-being.
In particular, care homes find that dementia patients often try to “go home”, leaving the facility in search of transport. Many are later found waiting at nearby bus stops. By bringing a bus stop into The Lawns, this initiative aims to offer a reassuring alternative, providing a sense of routine and security while helping to keep residents safe.
A Circular Approach to Event Design
This collaboration highlights how sustainable thinking can be embedded into event planning from the outset. By repurposing materials and designing with a post-event purpose in mind, Clarion Events, Stitch, and Event Cycle are demonstrating how the events industry can:
✅ Reduce waste by using reclaimed materials
✅ Support social enterprises that provide employment opportunities
✅ Create lasting impact by repurposing event installations for community benefit
From the bustling exhibition halls of Olympia London to a care home in Kempsey village, this project proves that even the simplest event elements can leave a meaningful legacy.
