As part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability and community engagement, Lemon Lane, a creative event agency, turned their office clear-out into an opportunity to support local charities and schools. Working with Event Cycle, they ensured that a wide range of items—including throw cushions, reusable coffee cups, tablet and phone stands, and tech equipment—were donated to deserving community organisations. This initiative not only kept these materials out of landfill but also helped a variety of charities and schools enhance their workspaces and programs, reinforcing the agency’s belief in making a positive social impact with every action.
Six organisations benefited from the donations:
The Brockley Jack Theatre
The Brockley Jack Theatre, a beloved local theatre in South London, received stationery items and Kensington locks from Lemon Lane’s event. These materials are now being used in the theatre's general office operations, enhancing the behind-the-scenes work that allows the theatre to continue creating impactful performances for the community. Notably, the locks are being used in the theatre’s lighting setup, adding safety and practicality to their productions.
Hayes School
Hayes School, a large secondary school with a robust SEN (Special Educational Needs) department, received several monitors and laptop desk stands. These items are being installed in the school’s small studio space, providing much-needed technology for their students. With limited budgets for technology upgrades, these donations will make a big difference in the quality of education the students receive, ensuring the school continues to offer top-notch facilities for learning and creativity.
Lewisham Donation Hub
Lewisham Donation Hub, an organisation that provides essential support to over 400 families weekly, received an assortment of cushions, throws, tea lights, and holders. These items will be redistributed to individuals and families facing hardship, helping to make their homes feel more comfortable and welcoming. The Hub, which assists refugees, people fleeing domestic violence, and the homeless, relies entirely on donations and volunteer support, making this contribution particularly impactful for the local community.
Brent Carers Centre
Brent Carers Centre, which supports unpaid carers in the culturally diverse London Borough of Brent, received tablet and laptop stands for their office, as well as phone holders for volunteers. These tools will enhance the Centre’s operations and improve the efficiency of its support services. The phone holders, in particular, will be gifted to volunteers as a small token of appreciation for their dedicated efforts in helping carers live more independent lives.
Good Chance Theatre
Good Chance Theatre, an arts and human rights charity working with refugee artists, received badge holders and reusable coffee cups. These items will be used in their community projects, where they bring local people together with refugees through creative arts. The badge holders are especially valuable for their large-scale community projects, and the coffee cups will be used in the office to support their day-to-day operations.
Harlesden Neighbourhood Forum
Harlesden Neighbourhood Forum, a group of local residents working to improve their area, received medals and potted lemon trees from the event. These will be used in their upcoming community event, where the medals will serve as prizes for participants involved in the refurbishment of their Nature Connection Centre. The lemon trees will also be used as educational tools to promote the importance of nature in urban areas.
A Circular Approach to Events
By partnering with Lemon Lane and redistributing event materials, Event Cycle demonstrated how events can have a long-lasting social impact. Items that would have otherwise been discarded were instead repurposed, supporting community organisations and improving the lives of countless individuals. This circular approach to sustainability ensures that materials continue to provide value long after the event is over.
This success story highlights how businesses can turn leftover event materials into valuable resources, benefiting communities and the environment. Through creative collaboration, Event Cycle and Lemon Lane showed that even the smallest items can make a big difference when they are put into the hands of those who need them most.
